JEFFERSON COUNTY APPARATUS DESIGNATORS
Jefferson County adopted a plain language naming scheme for apparatus in May 2006, in accordance with the intent of the National Incident Management System (NIMS). While some of the old all numeric designators can still be heard from time to time, the officially recognized designators are plain language.

In general, the designator consists of the department name, type of equipment or personnel, and a serial number, beginning with one (1). For instance, the radio designation of our chief is "Depauville Chief One."

Among the call signs you may hear on the air are:
Apparatus
Engine (any pumper)
Tanker
Truck (any aerial device)
Rescue
Ambulance
Fly Car (with level of care)
Utility
Brush
Boat or Fire Boat

Personnel
Chief
FP, or Fire Police
BLS (EMT-D)
ILS (AEMT-Intermediate)
ALS (AEMT-Critical Care)
Medic (Paramedic)
