JEFFERSON COUNTY APPARATUS DESIGNATORS
Despite adopting a plain language naming scheme for apparatus in May 2006, in accordance with the intent of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Jefferson County has returned to their older style designators, effect June 1, 2010. The rationale involves CAD limitations as well as ANI limitations.

In general, the designator consists of the department number, type of equipment or personnel, and a sequence number, beginning with one (1). For instance, the radio designation of our chief is "Sixteen Zero One."

Among the type designators you may hear on the air are:

0Chiefs and other officers
Apparatus
1Engine (any Class A pumper)
3Mini-pumpers and dedicated wildland interface (brush)
4Pumper-Tanker - must be Class A pumper and be equipped with a quick dump
5Tanker
6Rescue or non-transporting EMS vehicle
7Utility, squad vehicle, fireboat, or other miscellaneous.
8Truck (any aerial device)
9Ambulance
Other Personnel
FPFire Police
BLSEMT-D
ILSAEMT-Intermediate
ALSAEMT-Critical Care
MedicParamedic
